Message From Chair

Welcome to the Government Relations Committee

Our focus is as fundamental as the reason why NAIFA was founded, advocacy.  More than 100 years ago NAIFA was founded here in Boston, to promote ethical behavior of their membership and create a positive regulatory environment for the products as services we offer our clients.  Our goal with our new website is to bring our membership closer to our committee, to up to date you with the our state’s most current initiatives while keeping you connected to your legislators.

Our committee is broken up into three parts plus our Lobbyist, The Suffolk Group.

Legislative Committee  Chaired by Patrick J. Haraden, CEBS, REBC, RHU, CLU, ChFC, MBA

The legislative committee has been the workhorse for our organization.   The best industry leaders enhance, prevent and create bills that affect our industry and clients within life, health, disability insurance as well as investments and annuities.

Political Involvement Committee  - Chaired by Josh O'Gara

Our NAIFA MA Government Relations, patriarch, Harry Sechman, termed this committee’s goal as to build NAIFA MA political capital.  This committee implements a process to identify members with legislative contacts and to assist them in cultivating positive relationships with them and their staffs. By doing so, we will be able to create significant constituent insurance agent and financial advisor relationships with elected officials.

Political Action  - Chaired by Connell Tarr, CLU, ChFC

IFAPAC exists for one reason, to support the campaigns of state and federal candidates for elective office who understand issues important to insurance agents and financial advisors. Our PAC goals for 2012 include increased  contribution participation from more of our members. It only takes $8.50 on  check-o-matic to reach the Century Club. Our political contributions won't buy any votes but will put us at the table so we're not on the menu.

By having a membership that is strong with their Government Relationship committee means we can prevent bad bills from passing, promote good bills and at the highest level create bills. If you have a relationship with your representative and would like to get involved, please reach out to me.
